AFTI supports charitable activities, education, and research in support of the translation and interpreting professions.
AFTI promotes this objective by sponsorship and dissemination of research and education in the fields of translation and interpreting through research grants, scholarships, conferences, and commissions for the production of education materials.
AFTI is a 501(c)(3) supporting charitable organization affiliated with the American Translators Association (ATA).

programs.
AFTI First-Time ATA Conference Attendee Student Scholarship
AFTI offers a limited number of $500 scholarships to students/recent graduates of translation or interpreting studies programs or related fields to help defray the cost of attending ATA’s Annual Conference.
ATA Membership Diversity Award
The ATA Membership Diversity Award offers a fully paid ATA membership to individuals who embody and promote diversity in the translation and interpreting professions. Students and newcomers to the translation and interpreting profession (including people changing careers) are given preference.
ATA Student Translation Award
ATA and AFTI award a grant-in-aid to a student for a literary or sci-tech translation or translation-related project. The project, which may be derived from any facet of translation studies, should result in a project with post-grant applicability.
Marian S. Greenfield Financial Translation Presentation Award
This award recognizes an outstanding presenter of a financial translation session during the ATA Annual Conference.
S. Edmund Berger Prize in Excellence in Scientific and Technical Translation
The Berger Prize was established to recognize excellence in scientific and technical translation by an ATA member. Nominees must be a member in good standing of ATA.
Alicia Gordon Award for Word Artistry in Translation
Established in memory of Alicia Gordon, this award recognizes imaginative solutions to knotty translation problems based on rigorous research. This award sponsors an article in the ATA Chronicle detailing the process.
Harvie Jordan Scholarship
A fully paid ATA conference registration, awarded to an ATA Spanish Language Division member in good standing to promote, encourage, and support leadership and professional development within the Division.
